Family Pets: Chickens!

Day 1

Today we got chicks! They are about 2 weeks old, and are fluffy! Here's a picture:

We named them all. There are 2 brown striped ones, 2 yellow ones, and 2 black and white ones. The 2 brown stripped ones are names Falcon and Horus, the 2 yellow ones are Daisy and Honey, and the 2 black and white ones are Smoke and Oreo. Horus is the leader of the group, he guards the food and water. The others are more shy, although Daisy was the first one to stand up, in spite of the scary new habitat. Honey was the first one to drink water, and Oreo was the first one to eat. Even though eating and drinking may seem easy, it actually isn't. They took 2 hours to figure out where the food was and 2 and a half to figure out where the water was. Hopefully they will all survive their first day here!

Week 2

All chicks are in good health, the chicks are really happy and used to their environment now. In the beginning they were so scared and afraid of the slightest noise. Now they've gotten so bold that they'll hop on your hand if you have food. (However, their claws are super sharp!) My dad made some feeders so they'll have plenty of food and water. Sometimes they're so noisy in the mornings that you get woken up by their continuous chirping. They also poop a lot, and their living quarters often stink.

Unfortunately, Horus is a rooster. He has a huge "crown", while the others barely have one. Obviously he's a male. We aren't allowed to own roosters because it'll bother the whole neighborhood with it's wake up call. We don't want to kill him, so we're going to give him away. :(

Here's some pictures of them:
